Tutorial audio issues

General tips for tutorials:

  • It’s best to bypass all the plugins after Soothe/Spiff for the tutorials to work as intended.
  • If there is an option in your DAW, please prefer inserting Soothe/Spiff on a stereo track instead of a mono track for tutorial purposes.
  • In some DAWs, you might need to turn on the playback to “wake” the output signal on that particular track. If you have multiple tracks in your project, solo the track where tutorials are used.
  • Also, if playback is required, it might be best to playback a looped section.
  • In some DAWs, you might need to arm the track for recording (or enable input monitoring, although that might lead to other issues).

ADOBE AUDITION

The playback needs to be turned on for the tutorial audio to work in Adobe Audition.

Here are step by step instructions:

Using Audition Waveform editor:

  • Add plugin to Effects Rack on any audio clip
  • Start the plugin tutorial
  • Start daw audio playback

The tutorial audio should now be audible.

Using Audition Multitrack editor:

  • Solo the track where you have Soothe2 or Spiff inserted
  • Start the plugin tutorial
  • Either Arm track for recording and enable input monitoring
  • Or start Audition audio playback

The tutorial audio should now be audible.

ADOBE PREMIERE

For Soothe2 and Spiff tutorials, the audio track should be soloed, and playback must be turned on.

DA VINCI RESOLVE

For Soothe2 or Spiff tutorial audio to work in Da Vinci Resolve, the playback on a soloed audio track should be turned on.

GARAGEBAND

For Soothe2 and Spiff tutorial audio to work on Garageband:

Probably the easiest way is to insert the plugin on an instrument track. Then engage playback briefly to “wake” the track audio.

If using an audio track, playback on a looped clip is required.

HINDENBURG JOURNALIST

A looped and soloed audio clip playback is required for tutorial sounds to work.

In Hindenburg the looping must be enabled in options/preferences:

Mac: Hindenburg -> Preferences -> interface -> Loop on ‘Play Section’
Win: Tools -> Options -> Interface -> Loop on ‘Play on Section’

After looping is enabled, the selected section can be looped with shift+space.

IZOTOPE RX

For Soothe2 or Spiff tutorials to work in iZotope RX, looping should be enabled, and preview turned on

Here are step by step instructions:

  • Enable looping in RX (Mac: cmd+L, Win: ctrl+L)
  • Add Soothe2 or Spiff on any audio clip from the Utility Plug-in menu
  • Start plugin tutorial
  • From the plugin window, enable preview

The tutorial audio should now be audible

LOGIC PRO

For Soothe2 or Spiff tutorial audio to work in Logic Pro, the track audio needs to be “woken up.”

Probably the easiest way to do this is to add Soothe2 or Spiff on a Software Instrument track and then press Record Enable on that track.

If using an audio track either press Record Enable or Input Monitoring (track input must be selected).

NOTE: Enabling Input Monitoring might not work on an audio track if Logic knows there is a high chance of an audio feedback loop (e.g., using Macbook speakers for output and Macbook mic for input device). In this case, you can also try soloing that particular track and then turning on the playback.

WAVELAB

For Soothe2 or Spiff tutorial audio to work in Wavelab, the playback on a looped audio clip must be turned on

  • Ableton Live
  • Bandlab Cakewalk
  • Bitwig Studio
  • Cubase
  • DP10
  • FL Studio 20
  • Nuendo
  • Pro Tools
  • Reaper
  • Studio One
