When trying to activate soothe, I contantly get the error "Invalid user credentials for email ...". What is the issue?
You are most likely trying to activate older version of the plugin (1.0.7) with recently purchased licence. The new licences are automatically deployed to the new, more flexible licence management of soothe, which requires soothe version 1.1.0 or newer.
If this is the case, please update to the most recent version. You can download it here.
How do I upgrade soothe from 1.0.7 to 1.1.0 or later? Is it a free update?
The update 1.1.0 for soothe is a free update, so no need for upgrade.
Just download the new version from here and install, your existing licence has already been deployed. You can activate the plugin by logging into new licence manager web app by using the same credential you've last used to activate the plugin. If you need to change your password, please use the lost password functionality in the licence manager web app.
Please note that it is strongly recommended to uninstall the previous version (1.0.7 or earlier) before installing 1.1.0 or later to avoid conflicts. This can be done with "Add or remove programs" on Windows, or by using the uninstaller included in .dmg of the newest releases for Mac.
All the activations and trials have been cleared, so each purchased licence now has three activations remaining. Please read the questions bellow for help on activation and deactivation processes.
If you have saved user presets as files, you should back these up for safety before uninstalling 1.0.7.
Do you have educational or artist pricing for soothe?
Unfortunately no, at least for the moment. We're a small company, and simply lack the manpower to process the applications for discounts individually.
How much latency does soothe require? Can I use it while recording or live?
soothe introduces around 91ms of latency, regardless of the sampling rate, so it can't really be used in live or realtime situation. This latency, or lookahead, is required to reduce the CPU hit and to avoid artefacts in the processing, so we can call it a design tradeoff.
Be sure to turn on the latency compensation in your host!
How many computers can I activate my licence on?
You can activate your licence on three devices, that is, computers or USB-drives. The licence is personal, and intended for a single person use. You should purchase a licence for each seat (=room, computer) in a multi-seated studio. Please contact us for a quote for multi-seat environments!
My studio computer is offline. Can I activate soothe on it, or start a trial on it?
Indeed you can! You have two options on this. Either use the plugins offline activation, with the help of another computer that is connected online. Or store your activation on a USB-drive along with other manufacturers' USB-licences, sessions, samples, etc.
How do I activate soothe offline?
Please follow these steps:
Open the plugin in your favourite DAW on the computer you wish to activate it on.
Select to activate offline ("This computer is offline") on the bottom right corner of the licence tab in settings.
Save offline activation request to your computer and transfer the request file to an online computer. Note that this request is computer-specific, and has to be generated on the computer you're going to activate.
Import the activation request from the bottom of the page.
Select the device and then the licence, save licence file to your computer.
Transfer the licence file back to your studio machine
Import the licence file into the plugin, and restart your DAW or reload the session for the licence to come into effect.
NOTE: Offline activations cannot be manually deactivated! This is a design choice, to allow this we'd have to implement a sniffer on your computer that silently watches over your system while you sleep. We didn't feel comfortable with the idea, so instead, if you need to deactivate your offline computer, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we'll sort it out.
Can you explain how the activations are counted?
Technical explanation commences:
You may activate your licence simulaneously on three (3) devices. A device is either a computer or a USB-drive. You may also deactivate the licence from previously activated device. The number of different devices that have been activated during a timespan of one year may not exceed six (6).
Example: First you activate your licence on one device (A). Few months later, you'll decide to activate your licence on two more devices, (B) and (C). You then deactivate all of those, and activate your licence on three other machines (D, E, F).
At this point, you can deactivate any of the recently activated devices, and reactivate any of the previous devices. So the devices (A-F) form a pool of six devices.
To activate the licence on a new, previously unactivated device (G), you'd have to wait until one year has passed from the initial activation of (A). You could then deactivate one active device from (A-F), and activate (G) instead.
If you deactivate (A) after more than a year has passed from its initial activation, (A) will be removed from the device pool. If you now reactivate (A) after it has been removed from the pool, the activation time of (A) will be reset to now.
So in short, the combined number of activated and deactivated devices during one year may not exceed six.
I bought a licence! Now what?
Thank you for purchasing!
Once the payment gateway (Paypal or Stripe) confirms your purchase, the webshop (pluginsquare.com) automatically emails you a licence key. Please check your spam, and in case it doesn't get delivered in 30 minutes or so, please email us at email@example.com.
Once you have your licence key, follow these steps:
NOTE: Don't close your DAW window or plugin window, or the plugin will lose the connection to the server!
Log into your account.
First select the device you want to activate by clicking the "Activate"-button.
Next, select the licence you wish to use for activation. Since you quite likely have only one available, click on the "Select".
Wait for the activation to happen.
If all went smoothly, the web app will acknowledge you that the coast is clear. You may now close the web page.
Your plugin window also tells you that the activation was successful.
Restart DAW or reload the session to reinitialise plugin instance(s) for the change to come into effect.
I'm having issues with delay compensation Pro Tools?
soothe requires approximately 100 milliseconds of delay compensation to do what it does
without artefacts. This may introduce problems with Pro Tools when using DSP-accelerated
plugins in the same signal chain. This can often be fixed by in several ways:
Move soothe to the beginning of the signal chain, before the DSP plugins
Substite the DSP plugins with their native counterparts where possible
Insert soothe and the DSP plugins on separate busses
soothe has been designed ground up to be as close to the recorded source as possible; we think
it sounds best there, as it can get most fixing done before any extra saturation.
Why my tracks sound lifeless after being processed with soothe?
You might want to ease the amount of processing you apply. soothe doesn't remove the need to
use your favourite EQ to shape the sound to the direction you want, it merely makes it easier by
evening out the starting point. A little soothing makes the pain go away, and little goes a long way! In the process you might also lose some excitement on the sound,
this is easily fixed by adding slight amounts of saturation after soothe by using hardware (or
emulated) compressors, or a saturation plugin. This combination will end up sounding good, trust us.
Why the plugin GUI is black?
This is an OpenGL intercompatibility bug caused by the combination of hardware, drivers and DAW. soothe uses OpenGL acceleration for the whole GUI to reduce the CPU hit caused by the frequency graph drawing.
For unknown reason the OpenGL rendering doesn't find its drawing context on some hosts with specific graphic cards running certain driver versions. This seems to mainly affect older Intel HD chipsets on Windows 7 x64. Updating your graphic card drivers may solve the problem, but it has also happened that updating to the most recent Intel drivers introduced this issue. The fight is still on, but results for fixing this have been meek.
As a workaround, the Windows installer includes an option for force disabling the OpenGL rendering on the plugin. Note that this will increase the CPU-hit somewhat when the plugin window is open.
I've used the plugin on a project, and now need to open the session on another studio.
What can I do?
You have two options. You can activate the licence on the another studio's computer, if you have remaining activations. Remember to deactivate your licence after your work there is done to not leave an activation behind!
If you need to do this frequently, it might be worth your while to store one of the activations on a USB-drive to carry with you. The activation can happily live with other manufacturers' activations, along with your sessions and samples.
